iPhone App Gets Zipcar Drivers on Their Way

“Cambridge, Mass.-based car-sharing service Zipcar this week launched an app that lets you locate and reserve one of its vehicles, unlock it using the iPhone touch-screen and drive it off the lot,” reports Jefferson Graham (usatoday.com). Graham notes that while there are many iPhone apps for autos “Zipcar’s app is the first to control the operation of a car.”

Citing significant upgrades to the Podcast Producer, Wiki, and Mobile Access components of Mac OS X Server Snow Leopard, reviewer Cameron Sturdevant (eweek.com) recommends that IT managers “put Snow Leopard Server on their short-term evaluation list when considering system updates in creative departments where Mac systems predominate” or in any enterprise “where high-value content is produced.”

Filed under: Tips and tricks , Odds and ends , Internet Tools Last night when the Apple store went down, I got tired of hitting refresh in Safari every few minutes while waiting for it to come back up, and went searching for something that would do the job for free . Now, this is not for coders who will laugh hysterically at my incompetence, but for those of you that are either lazy or don’t program at all. I fit both categories. Back in 2005 someone going by the moniker of Biovizier posted the solution on Macosxhints.com . It’s a little html snippet that will refresh any web page as frequently as you’d like, and its easily customizable for any page at all.

Windows Vista may be configured with a local security policy which does not include an authentication protocol that is required by Mac OSXServer v10.5 and later. Windows Vista clients may receive an alert similar to this when trying to bind to the Mac OSXServer PDC: “Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred: Logon failure:unknown user name or bad password.”
