There has been some consternation over the lack of backwards compatibility with the new Lightning dock connector in the iPhone 5. The Lightning to 30-pin adapter doesn’t pass any video and may not work with all audio docks . One MacRumors reader expressed particular concern over the lack of video support, noting that many in-car aftermarket entertainment systems use the video out function of the 30-pin connector to display and control apps from head units.

Apple is holding a media event today at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, where it appears set to introduce the iPhone 5, updated iPods, and a brand-new version of iTunes. The event is scheduled to kick off at 10:00 AM Pacific Time / 1:00 PM Eastern Time. Late last month, a photo surfaced showing what was claimed to be the iPhone 5 logic board with an A6 chip prominently displayed. There were some questions about the validity of the photo, but now a new pair of photos posted by HDblog.it [ Google translation ] show in greater detail not only the A6 chip but also other chips included on the logic board.
Apple has seeded developers with a new build of OS X Mountain Lion (12C50) to developers this evening. The version contains complete release notes as posted by 9to5Mac , suggesting the release is near complete. In addition to his disclosure that the updated iPhone and iPod touch are likely to support a panorama photo mode, developer Will Strafach has also posted several Tweets sharing hardware details on the updated iPod touch. According to Strafach , the updated iPod touch will carry a taller 1136×640 display, the same dimensions said to be coming to the iPhone 5 and in line with leaked photos from May said to show the iPod touch’s taller front panel. Strafach also says that the new iPod touch carries an internal code name of N78AP.
iOS developer Will Strafach posted a Tweet a few minutes ago stating that the iPhone 5 and the updated iPod touch reportedly due for introduction at tomorrow’s media event will support a new panorama photo mode that will enable users to capture multiple photos that can be automatically stitched together into a single panoramic image. [iPod touch] also has that Panoramic photo feature enabled as far as I know. I think the new iPhone does as well. Strafach has since deleted his Tweet, but says that he deleted it because the information was already known, not because it was inaccurate.
The outside of the box said "Windows base machine or better", so I bought a Mac.
