According to the iTricks website , developer Chris Kenner’s Rising Card app has been sitting in App Store limbo after Apple suggested the app might violate their guidelines. Which guideline might that be

5 Aug 2009Filed under: iPhone , iPod touch There are at least 27 Netflix related iPhone apps according to Macworld . Their purposes differ but most of them are designed to let you manage your movie queue. A new player is about to enter the arena: Netflix itself, who intends to bring “Watch Instantly” video streaming to the iPhone/iPod touch and the Nintendo Wii. At present Netflix streams over 12,000 movies and TV shows over a large variety of devices including Intel-based Macs . Todd Spangler of Mutichannel.com speculates, and I agree with him totally, that when released, streaming will be limited to Wi-Fi only

25 Jul 2009Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Software , Features , iPhone , App Store , iPod touch When the App Store was launched, I went a bit nutty and downloaded lots of apps. Eventually I limited myself to apps I thought I’d love. Some were free, some weren’t

AdAge is reporting on the aftermath of Microsoft COO Kevin Turner gloating about getting a call from Apple’s lawyers asking them to stop running the ‘Laptop Hunters’ Mom/Lauren ad because it inaccurately represented Apple’s pricing. Guess what: Microsoft has since run an altered version of the ad. In the original, Lauren (not that Lauren ) is after a laptop with “…speed, portability and battery life for under $1,700.” Here you go, Lauren . While shopping, she says, “This Mac is $2,000, and that’s before adding anything.” In the current version, she simply says “It seems like you’re paying a lot for the brand,” but mentions no actual price.

After all, why not try to get a little overflow traffic from Apple Stores and sell a few Zunes in the process? Perhaps they’ll have charming and pleasant retail employees like Lauren or Sheila from the “laptop hunter” ads… TechFlash is reporting that the company has hired George Blankenship, former Apple real estate chief, to consult on securing prime locations for the Microsoft stores
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , OS , Software , Odds and ends , Developer Sunday night on the Talkcast we were talking about sync apps for mobile devices — the latest iTunes update blocked the Palm Pre from identifying as an iPod in iTunes, and we were lamenting the fact that Pre users would have to go back to using Palm’s app again. Blackberry users are likewise forced to sync with one hand tied behind their backs: the Blackberry Desktop app up until now has only been available for Windows, and users on OS X have been recommended PocketMac for Blackberry , a third-party product. But now RIM has finally announced that they’re bringing the Blackberry Desktop app to the Mac — it’ll be available this September, and will offer all of the functionality you’d expect: syncing of calendars, contacts, and notes and tasks, app management, and the usual device updating and so on. There are screenshots on the official blog, and boy does that thing look like iTunes, all the way down to the sidebar menu, memory usage bar, and even the Music syncing screen

11 Jul 2009Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Apple Corporate One of my favorite episodes of The Brady Bunch is ” Quarterback Sneak .” In it, Marcia starts dating Jerry Rogers, quarterback of the Fairview High School football team. Problem is, Fairview happens to be the rival of Marcia & Greg’s Westdale High School, and the two teams are scheduled to play in their annual big game on Saturday.
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Hardware , Features , Apple TV Way back in what we called “the 80s,” my father bought a VCR. Its magic let us record TV shows for later viewing, and we loved it. In fact, VCRs did 4 things: Record the show you were watching Record a show that was airing on a channel other than the one you were watching Watch videos previously recorded (your own or commercial movies) Record shows all on its own Number 4 required a Tarot deck, eye of newt and a Harry Potter Time-Turner . The VCR had two “clocks” on its face.
The outside of the box said "Windows base machine or better", so I bought a Mac.
