30 Oct 2009Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 2 is a facelift focused on the PowerPoint component of the productivity suite. In this version, Microsoft Word for Mac gets a bug fix for a formatting problem that occurred when numbered lists were copied into another document, and Entourage for Mac #151the suite’s much-maligned e-mail client #151gains automated features for connecting to Mobile Me and Windows Live Hotmail accounts. None of the Entourage changes pull the product out of the ditch it’s in, however #151it’s still an inferior version of Outlook. Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 2 comes at no cost and will be relatively easy to deploy. That said, end users will find little in the way of improvements to the productivity suite, with the biggest changes focused on PowerPoint. – Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 2 is a no-cost upgrade that provides only modest improvements to the productivity suite.

23 Jul 2009Filed under: Software , How-tos , Productivity , Tips and tricks , Apple I consider myself a power Keynote user, and overwhelmingly prefer the app over PowerPoint (on both the Mac and PC) — even though though I’m just as well-versed at PowerPoint. Only on rare occasions do I start my presentation workflow in PowerPoint (if the deck is going to be chart-centric, to avoid the limited axis and error bar support in pre-09 versions of Keynote). While both Keynote and Powerpoint get you from Point A to Point B, it’s the “little things,” such as alignment guides and better graphics support (i.e., native support for Photoshop PSDs and Illustrator AIs), that make the presentation journey that much more enjoyable and more presentable.

Kerio announced today that it will be offering its mail and collaboration platform, Kerio Mailserver, as a Virtual Appliance for Parallels on the Mac, news that will be of interest to a lot of folks looking for an even easier way to get away from Exchange
